Hotels and rural houses in Pinares, the Moncayo and Soria: how to offer transfers to guests arriving by train at Soria or Medinaceli, by coach or by air at Barajas

Accommodation in Soria province takes in more and more guests without a car: they arrive by train at Soria station, with few services on a conventional line, or at Medinaceli; by coach at the capital's bus station; or by air at Barajas, 220 km from Soria and about 148 min along the A-2. A rural house in Covaleda, a hotel in San Leonardo de Yagüe, a guesthouse in Ágreda or a hotel in Soria's old quarter can offer the transfer as one more service of the house: it is booked in the guest's name with the train or flight number, the driver waits with a name sign, the price is fixed before booking and the invoice goes to the property or the guest. From Covaleda, Soria station is 49 km away, from 74,37 €.

How do guests reach Pinares, the Moncayo and Soria today?

Three areas, three kinds of guest and the same difficult arrival. Pinares de Urbión, with Covaleda, Duruelo de la Sierra and San Leonardo de Yagüe, lives on rural houses and small hotels that people come to for walking in the hills, mushroom hunting in autumn, seeing the source of the Duero and the Laguna Negra, and eating; its client comes from Madrid, Valladolid and the Basque Country, often in a group. The Moncayo area, with Ágreda and Ólvega, takes in business travellers for the local firms during the week and Moncayo hikers at weekends. The city of Soria has city hotels, tourist flats and the tourism of Machado, San Saturio, Numancia and the San Juan fiestas, with guests arriving by train, coach or car from Madrid and Zaragoza.

More and more of those guests arrive without a car. Those from Madrid take the conventional train to Soria station, which has few services and arrives via Guadalajara, or the scheduled coach, which has more departures; those from the south of the province and those travelling on the Madrid–Zaragoza line get off at Medinaceli, 75 km from the capital and much further from Pinares. Foreigners land at Barajas and look for a way to reach a mountain village their flight search engine has never heard of. No village in Pinares or the Moncayo has a station, and the intercity bus, where it exists, runs one service a day that does not fit check-in time. The result is the email every property in the province knows: "we arrive by train on Friday afternoon, how do we get up to you?"

What problem does the property face when a guest arrives without a car?

The first is distance. From Soria station to a rural house in Covaleda it is 49 km and about 47 min on the mountain road; to Duruelo, 54 km; to Ágreda, on the N-122, 53 km. The guest who steps off the train with a suitcase and no car ends up ringing the property so that someone comes down to fetch them, and that is the owner's time, kilometres on the house car and insurance that does not cover clients. The second is the hour: the train and the coach from Madrid arrive late in the afternoon or at night, when nobody is left at Soria station, and the international flight lands at Barajas at any hour.

The third is winter. Soria is one of the coldest provinces in Spain, and from December to March the roads of Pinares, the Santa Inés pass towards the Laguna Negra and the heights of the Moncayo may have ice or snow; a guest arriving by train does not know which road to take or whether chains are needed, and an owner driving down to fetch them at night on ice should not have to know either. The province page says it of Pinares: in winter the Santa Inés pass and the mountain roads can be icy. Solving the arrival before the guest asks, with a driver who knows the road and checks its state before leaving, is part of the welcome, and what sets apart a rural house that gets recommended from one that does not.

How do you offer the transfer to a guest: booking in their name, sign and invoice?

The property registers as a partner on the hotels page or on the flats and rural houses page, with its tax details and the people authorised to book. From then on, when a guest confirms a stay, reception or the owner books the transfer in the guest's name with the train, coach or flight number, the property's address and a landmark if the house is in open country with no number. The price is fixed before booking and the guest knows it in advance; the driver follows the arrival of the train or flight in the app and waits at the door of Soria or Medinaceli station, at the bus station or in Barajas arrivals with a sign bearing the guest's or the property's name.

The invoice goes to whoever the property decides: the guest, who pays for the transfer as they would pay a taxi, with their name and the trip; or the property, which adds it to the room bill or the weekend package and receives a single monthly invoice with one line per service. The figures are the engine's, the same as for any private customer: from Soria station to San Leonardo de Yagüe, 53 km; from Soria to Barajas, 220 km and about 148 min, from 269,36 €; from San Leonardo to Barajas, 200 km. Each route has its page with the "from" fare that reception can show the guest before they decide.

Which excursions with waiting time do guests ask for and how are they organised?

Once at the property, the guest without a car wants to see the province, and the transfer with waiting replaces the hire car they do not have. From Pinares, the most requested trip is the Laguna Negra, 31 km from Covaleda, with the driver waiting in whichever car park the seasonal regulation allows, and the Río Lobos Canyon through the San Leonardo or Ucero entrance, 25 km from San Leonardo. From the city of Soria, Numancia with waiting, 9 km, and the return by San Saturio and the Duero. From the Moncayo, Numancia is 59 km from Ágreda, and many business guests ask for the transfer to the city of Soria for a dinner or an errand.

Reception books the tour as a single service with the stops and the time for each, and the calculator gives the full price before confirming; if the guest wants to extend a visit, they tell the driver and the return adjusts. The province's guide to the Río Lobos Canyon, the Laguna Negra and Numancia without a car explains each site, its access and its seasons, and makes a good link for the welcome folder or the house's website. For groups filling a whole rural house, which in Pinares is the norm, several cars are coordinated on the same tour with the same pickup time. The opening hours of the Ucero visitor centre and the site, and the access regulation for the lake, are published by the Junta and change with the season.

What happens at San Juan, in the mushroom season and with the snow, and what commission does the property get?

The dates when Soria's properties hang out the full sign are also the busiest on the roads. The San Juan fiestas, in late June, are the biggest in the province, bring back the people of Soria who live elsewhere, close the centre of the capital and fill the nights with transfers between the city and the villages; the driver drops the guest at the point the council's arrangements allow and reception says so when confirming. Autumn is the mushroom season, with Pinares and El Burgo full at weekends and the Laguna Negra in its best light. In winter, snow on Santa Inés and Piqueras means booking with a margin and confirming the day before. The transfer price does not change for a holiday or high season; what changes is how sensible it is to book several days ahead.

The property's commission is the one the platform publishes on its partners page, paid for every transfer the property books or recommends to its guests, with each service itemised in the panel and the settlement in writing; there is no fee, minimum or lock-in. On each booking the property chooses whether the guest pays directly or the amount goes onto its monthly invoice. Registration is done from the partners page, with one entry for hotels and another for tourist flats and rural houses, and the panel admits several people with the same access, which in a rural house run by a family is practical. The platform does not promise what it does not do: it guarantees no volume of guests or services, and what it offers is written on the help page.

Frequently asked questions

Who is invoiced for a guest's transfer?

Whoever the property names when booking: the guest, with their name and the trip, or the property, on a monthly invoice with one line per service that it can pass on to the room bill or include in a package.

What if the guest's train or flight is late?

The booking carries the train or flight number and the driver follows the actual arrival in the app: the pickup moves with the delay and the driver waits at the station door or in arrivals with the sign. Waiting conditions are on the help page.

How does a rural house in Covaleda or Duruelo book for a guest arriving at Soria station?

From the partner panel, with the train number, the guest's name and the house's address or location; add a landmark if there is no number. From Soria station to Covaleda it is 49 km, and to Duruelo, 54 km.

Can the property offer a transfer from Barajas to a foreign guest?

Yes. It is booked with the flight number and the property's address; the driver waits in arrivals with a sign. From Barajas to Soria it is 220 km along the A-2, from 269,36 €, and the guest knows the price before confirming.

What commission does the property receive and when is it settled?

The commission published by the platform on its partners page, for each service booked or recommended by the property, itemised in the panel and settled in writing. No fee, minimum or lock-in.

How we write, where the figures come from and how we correct an error: editorial policy.

The San Juan traffic closures belong to Soria city council and change every year; the Laguna Negra access regulation, to the Junta; check them before promising a drop-off point. The commission, account conditions and waiting terms are those published on the partners and help pages on the date consulted; no volume of services is promised to anyone. Distances and times are those of the route engine in daytime with no incidents.
