Madrid is over two hundred kilometres away with no high-speed rail, so almost every long trip starts by road: towards Medinaceli and the A-2 in the south, towards Aranda and the A-1 in the west, and towards Zaragoza, Logroño and Navarre from the Moncayo and the north.
The city of Soria, on the banks of the Duero, holds the hospital, the station, the province's services and a large share of its population. It is where people come from far-flung villages for appointments and paperwork, and where most trips to Madrid, Zaragoza and Logroño begin.
Almazán, on the Duero south of the capital, heads an area of pine woods and cereal fields with small, scattered villages. It lies on the natural route from Soria to Madrid, and its residents rely on the capital for hospital care and on the A-2 for everything else.
El Burgo de Osma, with its cathedral, and San Esteban de Gormaz, on the banks of the Duero, make up the west of the province, close to the Burgos border and near the Río Lobos Canyon. There is weekend tourism, food and vineyards, and for many errands Aranda de Duero is closer than the city of Soria.
Ólvega and Ágreda, at the foot of the Moncayo near the Aragón border, form the province's industrial hub, with firms working in shifts. They are closer to Tarazona and Zaragoza than to Madrid, and much of their work and business travel heads towards the Ebro valley.
The north-west of the province, between the pine forests and the Urbión range: Covaleda and Duruelo, timber villages near the source of the Duero, and San Leonardo de Yagüe, on the Soria to Burgos road. The Laguna Negra and the Río Lobos canyon are nearby and draw visitors all summer.
The south-east of the province, in the Jalón valley on the A-2 corridor between Madrid and Zaragoza: Arcos de Jalón heads an area of very small villages, which for many things is closer to Guadalajara and Calatayud than to its own capital.

Soria is one of the few Spanish provincial capitals with no high-speed rail: the train to Madrid leaves Soria station on the conventional line via Torralba and enters Madrid through Guadalajara, with few services a day, and the south of the province goes up to Medinaceli station, on the Madrid–Zaragoza line, which has the most trains towards the capital. For an early flight from Barajas no train arrives in time, so the journey starts by road: from Soria it is {{ruta:soria-a-aeropuerto-madrid-barajas:km}} along the A-15 and the A-2, about {{ruta:soria-a-aeropuerto-madrid-barajas:min}} with no incidents, from {{ruta:soria-a-aeropuerto-madrid-barajas:precio}}, and the airport comes before you enter Madrid. From the Tierras del Burgo and San Esteban, in the west of Soria, Madrid is reached on the N-122 and the A-11 to Aranda de Duero and then on the A-1, which crosses Somosierra and enters the capital from the north, with Barajas close to that entry: from El Burgo de Osma it is {{ruta:el-burgo-de-osma-a-aeropuerto-madrid-barajas:km}}, about {{ruta:el-burgo-de-osma-a-aeropuerto-madrid-barajas:min}}, from {{ruta:el-burgo-de-osma-a-aeropuerto-madrid-barajas:precio}}. Almazán, by contrast, sits on the A-15 corridor towards Medinaceli and the A-2, and Barajas is {{ruta:almazan-a-aeropuerto-madrid-barajas:km}} away entering from the east. None of the three towns has a useful train: Almazán goes up to Medinaceli station, {{ruta:almazan-a-estacion-de-medinaceli:km}} away, and El Burgo and San Esteban depend on the car. Santa Bárbara Hospital is in the northern part of the city of Soria and is the province's reference hospital within the Soria Healthcare Complex, with the Virgen del Mirón as its second centre. Almost every specialist appointment and test from the villages goes through it, and the distances are those of a large, empty province: from Ágreda it is {{ruta:agreda-a-hospital-santa-barbara-soria:km}} and about {{ruta:agreda-a-hospital-santa-barbara-soria:min}}; from Covaleda, {{ruta:covaleda-a-hospital-santa-barbara-soria:km}}; from El Burgo de Osma, {{ruta:el-burgo-de-osma-a-hospital-santa-barbara-soria:km}}; from Arcos de Jalón, {{ruta:arcos-de-jalon-a-hospital-santa-barbara-soria:km}}. The bus, where there is one, does not fit the appointment. The transfer is booked with the time, the driver drops you at the door, waits for as long as the visit lasts and takes you home; from Ágreda, from {{ruta:agreda-a-hospital-santa-barbara-soria:precio}}. It is a car with a driver, not an ambulance or medical transport.
The three most visited places in Soria lie outside the towns and without any useful public transport: the Río Lobos Canyon, a natural park shared with Burgos, is entered from Ucero, next to El Burgo de Osma, and from the car park you continue on foot to the San Bartolomé hermitage; the Laguna Negra, glacial, in the Urbión range and the municipality of Vinuesa, has car access regulated in high season; and Numancia, the Celtiberian town that held out against Rome, occupies the hill at Garray, {{ruta:soria-a-yacimiento-de-numancia:km}} from the city of Soria, with no regular bus. The advice holds for all three: without your own car, book the outbound and return trips together, because there is no way to call for another car out there. A Spanish private hire authorisation covers intercity transport, while urban trips — those starting and ending in the same town — are reserved for taxis unless a licence covers them. The earlier the better, especially for early flights. For airport transfers we recommend booking the day before; same-day requests depend on availability and always require advance booking.
When it says “closed price”, yes: VAT included, fixed when you confirm, and it would only change if you alter the route, add stops or there is a long wait, and you are told first. There are two cases where the screen says something else: an “on request” vehicle is confirmed before anything is charged, and if you pick a driver's bid you pay that price on its conditions (no time change and no refundable cancellation). The price comes from our fare, or from the fare of the fleet that runs it if it has an approved one; if you don't pick anyone, you pay our fare.
